How to select air curtain
There are numerous factors that we have to consider when selecting an air curtain, some of which are listed below:
- Door height
- Outside wind
- Building static pressure
- Door structure
- Ambient temperature
- Air curtain size
- Air curtain design and look
- Noise level
- Power consumption
In normal cases, we can make preliminary selection by considering factors (1) – (4). And since factors (3) and (4) resulted in either an inward or outward airflow through the doorway, we group them together and called it collectively as “air infiltration through the doorway” (measured in m/s or fpm).
We eventually summarized the selection guides into a graphical presentation as shown below.

X-PER Air Partition at Suvarnabhumi Airport – Ground floor
X-PER air partitions were installed at ground floor of the Suvarnabhumi Airport Terminal. Cool air leakage was reduced by 80%, resulting in tremendous energy saving.
These air partitions were special version made of stainless steel 304 to match the existing structure.
Air curtains are fans installed on top of doorways with airstream directly downward to the floor. This laminar flow of air creates an invisible air door blocking the filtration of outside air, dust, and insects into the indoor area.
In case of air-conditioned room, air curtains will help reducing air exchange through the doors and result in savings on heating and cooling expenses.
